Kokomo was turned into a high euthanasia shelter as an owner requested euthanasia. We would not let her story stop there.
Kokomo was unrecognizable when she was returned to the Killeen Animal Shelter by her original adopters—skinny, hairless, and a shadow of the healthy, happy dog they had adopted out years before [Rescue Video Here]. Shelter staff were stunned. The same people who had once promised her forever had brought her back—not to find her a new home, but to request that she be euthanized.
But today, thanks to generous donors and a New Hope Animal Rescue foster home, Kokomo is unrecognizable for all the right reasons.
With love, medical care, and time in a dedicated foster home, she grew strong again. Yet even after her transformation, a new challenge emerged. She was overlooked time and time again for adoption—possibly because of her mature age or the 'elephant skin' left behind as a permanent reminder of her past neglect. Some couldn’t see past it, but we knew the right person would and we would never give up on finding her a great home.
And then, her perfect match just arrived!

An amazing couple saw Kokomo’s beautiful smile and wanted her even more because they knew so many others had passed her by. Where others saw imperfections, they saw a dog who deserved to be loved even more fiercely. And now, after waiting for more than a year for someone to truly see her, Kokomo has finally found her forever home!
