Spaying and Neutering Saves Lives Puppies and kittens are adorable, but not when they are contributing to the over population of pets in Texas.  It  can feel like an uphill battle trying to save innocent lives with the countless pleas for help we receive, which includes puppies from "oopsie" litters or orphaned newborn kittens. Both are a result of an overwhelming number of unfixed animals on our streets and in people's homes. We are grateful that your support helps us spay and neuter every pet prior to adoption. Because even with the best intentioned pet owner, fertile pets are at risk of increasing the population which leads to countless adoptable pets being euthanized in shelters.  Did you know a male dog can sense an intact female up to 3 miles a way and will pursue her relentlessly? A male cat can sense a female in heat up to two miles away and a kitten can get pregnant at 4 months of age!   This is why spaying and neutering all animals, including puppies and kittens, prior to adoption remains one of our top priorities. This means puppies and kittens are in our care a little longer, which means they receive several rounds of vaccinations, dewormer and prevention prior to adoption. Our spaying and neutering costs alone range from $85 - $150 per pet.   Talia was an orphaned newborn kitten who without our help would have suffered and died in the streets. She was bottle fed every 2  hours until she could eat on her own.  An unfixed female cat can have up to 180 cats in her lifetime. Kittens like Talia can become pregnant at 4 months of age!
