The Dog Who Waited Three Weeks for Someone to Care
“Whose dog is that?” Paddi asked a woman carrying groceries.
The woman shook her head sadly.
“The family in 3B moved out last month. Just… left him. Can you believe it?”
Paddi, a New Hope foster, had spotted the dog earlier — sprawled out in the middle of the parking lot, baking in the Texas heat outside a small apartment complex in Palestine, TX.
Neighbors told her they’d been feeding Hank for weeks while he waited in that same spot, hoping his family would return. She could still see the faint impression of the collar he used to wear, a quiet reminder that he once belonged to someone.
When she offered him food, Hank came running. Hungry, desperate, tail low but eyes full of hope. He even tried to climb into her car, as if he were asking to be saved.

She wanted to take him right then and there, but she was just visiting and staying in a hotel — she had nowhere to bring him yet.
That night, a thunderstorm rolled through. Paddi couldn’t sleep, picturing him out there, soaked and scared, trying to find shelter.
At sunrise, she drove back. Hank was lying behind an air conditioner unit, soaking wet. When he saw her, he ran straight to her and jumped right into her car — relieved, trusting, and ready to go home.
That’s the day New Hope said "yes" to Hank.

Help Heal Hank's Heart
During his neuter visit, we learned Hank is heartworm positive, and his first treatment injection was yesterday, Tuesday November 4th.
Heartworm treatment for a dog Hank’s size costs approximately $600. With vet costs soaring — and three of our rescued dogs currently undergoing treatment — every “yes” we say is truly a leap of faith.
