Heartworms Are Deadly—But Together, We Can Save Lives

Heartworm disease is preventable, but for most of the dogs we rescue, their previous owners never gave them that protection. By the time dogs like Nigel [above] reach us, they are already heartworm positive—abandoned, neglected, and facing euthanasia in overcrowded shelters.

Right now, we have several dogs like sweet Leela [below] undergoing the long and costly process of heartworm treatment. This treatment isn’t optional—it’s their only chance to survive. Without it, heartworm disease slowly destroys their heart and lungs.

With treatment, dogs like Domino [below] get the chance to breathe easier, run without pain, and finally know the love and care they’ve always deserved. Domino's owner moved and left her sitting abandoned outside of a trailer home with just food dumped on the ground that was soaked from the rain. Thankfully, one of our volunteers took her in to foster! Domino has had at least four litters prior to joining our rescue but has now been spayed thanks to donors like you.

The cost of treatment adds up quickly. Between diagnostics, x-rays, medications, and follow-up care, each heartworm-positive dog can require $800–$1,000 in vet care to get healthy. But we refuse to turn our backs on dogs like Jacob [below]. Sweet Jacob has now recovered from his treatment and is ready for adoption!

Event Alert - New Hope Dogs to Attend Wu Chow's Chinese New Lunar New Year Celebration Sunday January 26th from 5-7pm [the party is until 9pm]!

We will be on their heated patio but inside they will be hosting a free party that includes food, drinks and Lion dancers!  Our dogs will be attending until 7pm but the party is until 9pm.  Reserve your tickets here or at the door!  There is an optional $10 donation benefitting the animals in our rescue but this is NOT required to participate in the celebration or to meet our dogs!
