Ace's Halloween Update: A Life Saved Through Understanding

Halloween is upon us, a day of fun where humans delight in playful frights and lots of treats! But there was nothing fun for Ace about the fear he felt at a local shelter. Confined to a kennel, surrounded by the clamor of loud barking dogs, Ace was thought to have 'barrier reactivity, and the halloween costume above might mirror how some perceived Ace's behavior to be. This meant he faced imminent euthanasia as the shelter was faced with tough choices for kennel space.
But New Hope, a trusted trainer and an amazing foster mom saw his potential. This adorably stocky, big-headed goober has taught us an invaluable lesson: you can't judge a dog's behavior while in a stressful shelter environment. From "scary" pound puppy to sweet lap dog, Ace's head is only outsized by his huge heart.

Ace has surprised us with his hilarious antics like running towards the shower and happily jumping in and getting extra excited for bath time! At 60 lbs, he's known for his surprise lap take overs as he has no idea he's not actually a tiny Frenchy. He's affectionately known as a bit of a "trash panda" for his occasional dumpster-diving tendencies, he's working on it, just like any smart and mischievous pup. He loves the female pitty in his foster home who takes him on walks, yes, he is leashed to her and she walks him! And he even respects the cats. You can read Ace's full adoption bio and see more photos and videos of Ace here.

But the true hero in Ace's story is his foster mom who has provided him with consistent, calm, confident leadership and training over the last two months. Most importantly, she has truly wanted to understand Ace as the unique individual he is and adapts her training methods to suit his individual needs.

Ace, even while at the shelter, once out of his kennel and away from loud barking dogs, would show us and the shelter staff his love of human companionship.
