Pets in Texas Need Help!

PETS IN TEXAS NEED HELP!

Texas just experienced a humanitarian crisis with freezing temperatures and a failing power grid.

In anticipation of the storm, New Hope Animal Rescue scrambled to save 35 cats and kittens, a pregnant and now nursing mom with pups, puppies and several adult dogs. Our fosters also temporarily housed, fed and cared for 19 additional animals until they could safely be transported to an out of state rescue on Sunday. All of these pets were either facing outdoor freezing temperatures or certain euthanasia at south Texas shelters who were bracing for the freeze.

No one could predict the extended power outages that would mean so many of us would also face freezing temperatures inside our homes, followed by water, food and gas shortages. I’m from Chicago and lived through -50 degree wind chills, but I never experienced a winter event as harrowing as the one Texans just faced.

We are a local Texas based organization in need of support. Homeless Texas pets have always been in crisis and now with this winter event, our supplies and funds are low. The animals we just rescued from the freeze also need vet care. If you are able to send supplies from our amazon wish list or make a donation, our rescued pets would be very grateful!

P. S.  During the days without power and heat in my own home, my pets, fostered animals and I huddled together in my bedroom under blankets. I was truly grateful for the body heat of the animals snuggled against me and am humbled that my rescued pets and fosters were now saving me!  In particular, my foster Moira Rose  lovingly slept on my chest through the cold nights and Belle would sleep on top of my feet, keeping them warm!
