For the Love of Big Lap Dogs in Need of Homes
Papaya's breed mix combined with her size meant certain death at a crowded local shelter who was making tough decisions to free up kennel space for other dogs pouring in. She was scheduled to be euthanized at 3pm on a Friday when we got a life-saving foster offer at 2pm . She is the sweetest girl who loves every human she meets! Read more about her here.
We know many of you love big lap dogs as much as we do! Unfortunately, the current economic climate along with restrictive landlords, rising housing costs and rising vet costs has hit pet owners hard. And sweet, big lap dogs like Papaya pictured above, are paying with their lives at increasingly alarming rates.
As we strive to make a difference in the lives of these gentle giants, we are faced with a heart-wrenching reality. Texas remains the leading state in shelter casualties, with Dogs, making up 45% of shelter casualties. Dogs over 50 pounds are the most likely to be killed. In 2023, dog euthanasia rates have doubled compared to the same period in 2021, while dog adoption rates continue to plummet.
Our rescue is dedicated to helping these larger dogs, but we are facing challenges in finding them forever homes. This limitation hampers our ability to rescue more animals in need. If you know of potential pet parents who might be a perfect match for our big dogs, we urge you to consider forwarding their profiles to them.
For every big dog adopted, there is space for us to save another life! Here are a few of our favorite gentle giants who are anxiously waiting for their forever families.
