Description:

Howie may be tiny, but he has an enormous personality.

He is playful, confident, affectionate, and full of funny little quirks. Howie loves other dogs and has especially nice social skills. He approaches play with confidence, but he is not overbearing. He watches the other dog, responds to their cues, and adjusts his energy rather than simply bulldozing into the interaction. He seeks them out for companionship and play, and his style is gentle, appropriate, and genuinely social.

When playtime is over, he is more than ready to settle in for cuddles either with his human or dog pal.

Howie especially loves curling up on a person’s chest. He will also perch behind your head on the couch like a little cat, perfectly content to supervise the household from his unusual favorite spot. At bedtime, he settles comfortably at the foot of the bed. He is deeply affectionate without being overly clingy—the perfect balance of loving companion and confident little individual.

He is also quite the conversationalist. When Howie is excited or wants you to follow him somewhere, he breaks into his signature hound-like “woo-woo-woo” song, as though he has something very important to show you. It is hilarious, endearing, and completely Howie.

Howie has already overcome a difficult chapter. After experiencing complications following his neuter, he was rushed to the emergency room, where an ultrasound revealed pancreatitis. He has responded beautifully to treatment, gained weight, regained his energy, and now acts like a happy, healthy little dog. New Hope will repeat his bloodwork before adoption to make sure everything continues to look good.

Today, Howie is full of life. He plays, snuggles, talks, and makes everyone around him laugh. He is the kind of dog who will curl up over your heart one minute and serenade you with tiny hound-dog noises the next.

For someone looking for a confident, playful little companion who is very affectionate without being too overwhelming, Howie may be the perfect match.
