Description:

Sparkles
Mixed Breed
Female
62 Pounds

Sparkles got her name because she truly shines โ€” even after everything sheโ€™s been through. This resilient, loving mama was found hiding in tall grass after being abandoned, likely not long after weaning puppies. In a twist of fate, a screaming kitten led a cat volunteer right to her. While Sparkles is hilariously terrified of cats (the irony!), she has been nothing but gentle, submissive, and respectful toward every cat sheโ€™s met in her foster home.

At about 65 pounds, Sparkles is a beautiful mixed-breed girl with a heart of pure gold. She is friendly with everyone she meets โ€” people, dogs, cats โ€” and truly sees all beings as potential friends. She has never growled, snapped, or shown aggression of any kind. Her temperament is soft, affectionate, and eager to connect.

Sparkles is 100% potty trained and will not potty in the house. She is also crate trained and goes into her crate easily and without fuss when needed, though she doesnโ€™t view it as her favorite cozy hangout โ€” sheโ€™d much rather be wherever you are.

This girl is smart and a fast learner. When she first came to us, she had never been on a leash, in a crate, or even known her own name โ€” and she picked all of it up within her first week. She currently knows: crate, walk, potty, no, come, and Sparkle.

Sparkles is high energy and needs both physical and mental stimulation. Toys, chews, puzzles, enrichment, walks, hiking, yard zoomies โ€” all of it. She thrives when her body and brain are engaged. A secure yard is strongly preferred, unless her adopter plans to provide consistent exercise and structured daily activity.

She is very affectionate and firmly believes she is a lap dog. Despite her size, she wants to cuddle, give kisses, sleep in bed with you, and follow you from room to room.

Sparkles is not an independent dog โ€” she wants to be deeply involved in your life and treated like a true family member (or, as she sees it, your dog-child).
Sparkles is also very strong and can get excited, especially on leash. Her future adopter should be comfortable handling her strength and continuing leash manners as she matures.

Before coming to New Hope, Sparklesโ€™ world was very small โ€” likely limited to a backyard. Now, sheโ€™s discovering life: dog parks, hikes, patios, restaurants, meeting new people, sleeping in bed, lounging on couches, and living alongside cats and toys galore. She is curious, adventurous, and soaking it all in.

Sparkles is an incredibly loving, joyful, and devoted dog who is currently navigating her version of the โ€œterrible twos.โ€ With time, consistency, and an active home that wants a true companion, she will be an absolutely exceptional partner.

If youโ€™re looking for a dog who will adore you wholeheartedly, keep life exciting, and be by your side for everything โ€” Sparkles is ready to shine in her forever home.
