Description:

Meet Big Red, a shy yet mild mannered, sweet Chihuahua mix with who is slowly but surely coming out of his shell and showing his true colors.

At just 12-18 months old and weighing in at a petite 15 pounds, Big Red is still learning the ropes of being a beloved companion. He may be timid at first, but once he warms up to you, he's a loyal and loving cuddle buddy. He especially enjoys snuggling "in the slot," pressed up against your leg on the couch – his favorite spot to unwind and feel safe.

House training is progressing well for Big Red, who uses pee pads indoors but is eager to learn to emulate his canine companions by going outside. While he's not a fan of crates and may try to run when approached, he settles down once inside – though leaving him uncrated comes with the risk of some mischievous sock and blanket chewing.

Despite his initial fears, Big Red gets along well with everyone, including other dogs and even a large pound pup named Angel. However, he's still working on overcoming his strong flight response, preferring to approach interactions on his own terms.

On walks, Big Red's timid nature shines through as he cautiously assesses his surroundings, seeking refuge from any perceived threats. With patience and guidance, he's slowly gaining confidence and learning to enjoy the great outdoors.

Although he hasn't quite mastered commands or responding to his name yet, Big Red shows potential and curiosity, especially when it comes to treats and the sound of Spanish – a language that piques his interest.

With medium energy levels and a penchant for lap cuddles, Big Red would thrive in a home with other dogs or as a devoted companion to a patient owner. While he may not be big on playing just yet, he loves sharing laps, dog beds and couches with his fellow canine companions.

Big Red has shown a tendancy to get possessive of his favorite human companion's lap when it comes to other humans and in his foster home, he's a dadd's boy. So sometimes Big Red gives foster mom a warning nip [just a warning, never bites] when she tries to get some of his dad's attention too.  But regardless, foster mom just adores Big Red and assures you that he is sure to fill your heart with love and companionship.

If you're ready to open your heart and home to a sweet, shy soul in need of love and understanding, consider welcoming Big Red into your life. With time, patience, and plenty of TLC, he's sure to blossom into the loyal and loving companion you've been searching for.

Don't miss your chance to make a difference in Big Red's life – adopt him today and experience the joy of helping a shy pup find his forever home.
