Meet Kokomo, the two-steppin' black lab mix! Picture this: you take a step forward, and she takes one back, setting the stage for a doggy dance routine.

With her happy two step dancing, it’s hard to believe that Kokomo endured years of neglect and betrayal. Adopted from a shelter north of Austin, her owners returned with her five years later in a heartbreaking physical state, requesting she be euthanized because they did not want her anymore. With only moments until her euthanasia, the shelter reached out to New Hope Animal Rescue, and Kokomo's foster mom uttered those life-saving words without hesitation: "I'll take her!" From that moment on, Kokomo and her foster mom have been two-steppin' and happy dancing their way through her recovery, proving that love and resilience conquer all. 

And this sweet girl is a quick learner, knowing commands like sit, shake, back up, and come, and is house trained. On crating, please note that our vet determined that Kokomo showed physical signs of having been neglected and confined in a crate excessively, so her foster mom does not crate her nor does she feel that Kokomo requires a crate.  

But what truly sets Kokomo apart is her boundless love for playtime and snuggles. Whether she's romping around with her furry friends or catching up on some well-deserved nap time, Kokomo's happiness radiates wherever she goes.

Having spent her early years without the love and attention she deserved, Kokomo is now making up for lost time by soaking up all the affection she can get. She's a master at seeking out pets and cuddles, always eager for a little extra love from her favorite humans. Patient and gentle, Kokomo adores the little ones who climb all over her and is quick to join in on their playful antics.

Toys are another one of Kokomo's passions, especially stuffed toys with crinkly stuffing and her beloved bean burrito. While she may not be the best at fetch, Kokomo is always up for a game of tug-of-war or a cozy nap with her favorite toys by her side. And when it comes to mealtime, she's a generous soul, happily sharing her food and bones with everyone around her.

In her ideal home, Kokomo dreams of being the center of attention, surrounded by plenty of love, pets, and affection. She thrives in the company of other friendly dogs and would love regular outings and playdates with her canine companions. Car rides are another favorite pastime, with Kokomo happily sticking her head out the window to feel the wind in her fur.

Her fur may never grow back 100% because her owners simply neglected her for far too long, but she has come so far. She continues to exude confidence and self-worth, seeing herself as beautiful and deserving of affection. She has a hypothyroid condition her prior owners failed to diagnose or address, having never provided vet care - but thankfully Kokomo happily takes a small pill each day without fuss. With the cost of her prescription on Chewy being just $4 a month, it keeps her healthy and happy and is affordable! 

With her low-energy demeanor and easygoing nature, she's the perfect companion for someone looking for a loyal and devoted friend. All Kokomo asks for in return is a warm bed, plenty of love, and the occasional reminder that she's truly beautiful inside and out.
