NHAR Receives Grant for 2022 from PetSmart Charities

NEW HOPE ANIMAL RESCUE NFP RECEIVES $35,000 GRANT FROM PETSMART CHARITIES® TO HELP MORE HOMELESS PETS FIND HOMES IN AUSTIN TEXAS

Austin TX – March 15, 2022 – New Hope Animal Rescue has received a $35,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help prepare more homeless pets in Texas for adoption. Some five million pets make their way into shelters each year in the U.S. With the help of this grant, New Hope Animal Rescue will be better able to rescue more pets from area shelters and fund the necessary vet care and supplies needed before adoption.

This grant helps homeless pets like Lara, pictured below. Lara was recently adopted from a PetSmart [SouthPark Meadows] in Austin TX. Lara, like countless other pets, was on an urgent list at an overcrowded South Texas shelter in January. She was at high risk due to her length of stay and an eye injury. Thanks to funding support from PetSmart Charities, New Hope Animal Rescue saved Lara and five other-at-risk cats that day from the same shelter and place them into foster homes in the Austin region. Grant funding helped each cat receive vital medical care before being made available for adoption at PetSmart.

“We are incredibly thankful for this grant as it provides funding for spaying and neutering pets before adoption which is critical to reducing the homeless pet population in Texas. Funding support also makes it possible for us to save some of most vulnerable pets like Lara who needed more than just routine pre-adoption vet care. Once animals are ready for adoption, the PetSmart adoption centers help us get adoptable pets swiftly placed into the arms of loving pet parents, which makes room for us to save even more homeless pets,” said Kelley Rice, President of New Hope Animal Rescue.
