Sir Winston is one of the gentlest little souls you will ever meet.

When he came to New Hope, it was clear life hadn't always been kind to him. He was found abandoned and wearing a cone that was far too small and had become tightly embedded around his neck, causing painful sores and infection. His nails were severely overgrown, and his fur was dirty and matted, suggesting he may have spent much of his life confined and neglected. While we'll never know exactly what his past looked like, we do know that it failed him.

Despite everything he has been through, Winston remains incredibly sweet. He can be shy when meeting new people and experiencing new things, but he is not snappy or reactive. In fact, he is wonderfully gentle and allows handling without issue. More than anything, Winston wants to trust—he just needs a patient family willing to give him the time and reassurance he deserves.

One thing that has helped Winston tremendously is the company of other animals. He is dog-friendly with dogs of all sizes, cat-friendly, and seems to gain confidence from having furry friends around him. For that reason, we think he would thrive in a home with another friendly dog who can help show him the ropes and teach him that the world isn't such a scary place.

Winston is potty pad trained and is currently working on his house-training skills. Like many dogs who haven't had the benefit of a stable, loving home, he is still learning about all the wonderful things life has to offer. His ideal adopter will understand that confidence takes time to build and will celebrate the little victories along the way.

The best part about Winston is watching him blossom. Every day he becomes a little braver, a little more curious, and a little more confident.
